Freelancing 101

This four-week class introduces writers to the basics of freelancing. If you're a former staffer trying to figure out where to go from here or a freelancer who needs some inspiration and guidance because of the tough economy, this class can help you. We'll cover how to get started in freelancing, where to find editors and other buyers to pitch, developing a bio, creating a freelancing plan, putting together a contact list and writing pitches and letters of introduction. With clips or without, you can sell your work as a freelancer and this course will show you how.

Each Monday, a lesson will be emailed, outlining that week's information and assignment. Jennifer will provide detailed feedback on assignments such as putting together a contact list and writing pitches and letters of introduction. She'll work with you to help you develop a plan of action that will get you started in freelancing.

Jennifer has been freelancing for nearly 15 years. Her work has appeared in magazines such as Family Circle, Cooking Light, Oxygen and many others. She is the author or co-author of more than 25 published books. Her freelance experience includes magazine and book editing.
